6 – 10 February 2012
The TCC is an intensive 5 day practical training course offered to clinicians wanting to improve their understanding of tuberculosis. The course is designed to share our experience in dealing with the day-to-day management of tuberculosis with a strong international focus.
The course is run from the UCT Lung Institute, which is an established leader in new TB drug development and TB diagnostic research. Initially created to train visiting Dutch pulmonologists to share our local experience with dealing with tuberculosis; the success of the TCC over the last 5 years has prompted us to offer the course to a wider audience. Given our mandate at the UCT Lung Institute to improve lung health, we are now inviting pulmonologists, specialist physicians and general practitioners seeking to broaden their training and experience in the field of tuberculosis to attend. The TCC course program has a strong international component and is designed to be applicable to clinicians worldwide.
The TCC program is based on a tried and tested formula of case-based experiential learning with support from leading specialist in TB and TB/HIV management. Popular teaching areas include the rapidly developing field of new TB diagnostics, new TB Drug development and the management of complicated drug resistant disease. There is a strong practical focus to the course and in addition to expert lectures, a number of site visits are integrated into the course, including a day trip to a local TB hospital at Brewelskloof Worcester and a visit to GF Jooste Hospital to interact first hand with TB clinicians. There is also a focus on radiological interpretation of TB that has proved popular on other TB training courses run at the UCT Lung Institute.
